First Day (Jabuary 27, 2014)

   It was my first day off soccer so right away I thought to myself "I should go volunteer!" I got to Sunshine Gardens at 3:00 pm, at first I was really nervous because I did not know what to expect from the children. I got Room 3 with Teacher Ann, most of the kids are around six years old. Ms. Ann is a nice teacher, but I can tell that she has a strong attitude when she gets mad. Since it was 3:30 pm the kids were outside playing, therefore, I stayed outside and played with them. The kids are very lovely, I felt comfortable right away. The girls mostly followed me, but this kid named Kevin kept wanting to play soccer with me since I told him that I play for my school. After, we went inside the classroom. Ms. Ann set up two tables with different stations, one was the "I have a dream…" station which was the one I was placed in, and the other one was "Thank G for the toys…" I thought it was an awesome way to remember Martin Luther King's work, the children were told to copy down the famous phrase "I have a dream that one day…" and then finish the sentence with something that included the community. Many of my kids wrote nice things like "I have a dream that one day everybody receives presents." My table was really productive, they are smart caring kids.

First thoughts about possible topics

    I am not quiet sure of what I want to do in life, but I for sure want to help people. Last year, a group of South City High School kids were invited to attend to Big Ideas Fest in Half Moon Bay and I was one of them. We were chosen to represent students across the United States, our job was to tell the teachers and other people that were there how we dealt with high school and contribute with ideas that would improve our education. After, I discovered something about myself. I really like to interact with people and I picture myself being a teacher. Therefore, I am interested in the field of education. I also picture myself traveling to a third world country and provide some sort of help. I think that nursing would also be a fascinating career. I am not afraid of blood and I consider myself very friendly person. Lastly, over these high school years I have changed my eating and exercising habits, I learned a lot of things about healthy nutrition that I never knew. It is very important to keep your mind and body healthy. I am interested being a health educator.
    In college, I for sure want to minor in Spanish since it's my first language so I want to learn it completely. My dream school, Dominican University, offers clinical nurse leader and humanities so I would love to take these courses.
